On the roof of the Bugatti Bolide is a morphable skin. At low car speeds, the roof scoop remains smooth. At higher speeds, dimples bulge out, improving aerodynamics! The idea is much like a golf ball – a smooth ball has the airflow detach early and creates a large wake. A dimpled ball creates many turbulent air pockets, which allow the flow to detach later, reducing the wake. On the Bugatti, the dimples poke out instead of in, but the effect is similar. As the car reaches higher speeds, each of the 60 dimples create a 10mm bulge!
