Low coolant message on a Hyundai Ioniq Electric 38kWh indicates a recall needs doing

Our 2020 Hyundai Ioniq Electric 38kWh has just had the "Refill coolant" message on the dash. This is a common issue on the Ioniq Electric and indicates that a recall needs undertaking. This only affects the 38kWh model (2020-2022), as the previous 28kWh model (2016-2019) does not have a water cooled battery pack. This is a common issue with these and is caused by the coolant crystallising and it needs to be flushed and replaced. The first sign of this is a drop in coolant and the "Refill coolant" message on the dash.
Hyundai have a recall currently ongoing to replace the coolant in these vehicles. These use an "electric vehicle battery coolant" called BSC-1. It’s basically a low conductivity coolant. Hyundai are now replacing this with a BSC-2 coolant. Only time will tell if this new coolant fixes the problem.
