In this video, I look at the correct way of stopping and parking an electric vehicle. Many get this wrong and are causing damage to their transmission, which could result in huge bills. The same also applies to most other hybrid and internal combustion engine automatics too. But as the majority of new EV owners (in the UK) have probably never driven an automatic before, they are unaware of this.
Many see "Park" and think that it is ok to just use this when parking the vehicle and don’t even bother using the handbrake. This is causing stresses on the park pawl within the reduction gearbox which can result in expensive damage.
If you’re parking on a hill or slope, then ideally you want to hold the car on the handbrake, then select Neutral, then release the foot brakes and then select Park. This then makes sure the weight of the vehicle is being held by the brakes before you engage the park pawl.
So in this video, I show you how to correctly stop and park your vehicle using the Nissan Leaf, Peugeot Partner (also a Citroen Berlingo), Hyundai Ioniq, Renault Kangoo, Nissan E-NV200 and a Renault Zoe as examples.
