From April 2025 all electric vehicles have to pay vehicle excise duty (VED) in the UK. Up to now electric cars and vans have had free VED or more commonly referred to as "road tax".
But you can renew your road tax now in March 2025 for another year while it’s still at zero cost, which means you delay the charges for another year. By renewing your tax now, you reset the renewal date to March, which means you will start paying from April 2026.
For most electric car owners, this will save £195. But electric van owners will save £345.
In the full video https://youtu.be/khe3VvlOnrM I show you the full process of renewing your tax on an electric vehicle. You do not need to SORN it first. You can renew your tax any time in March 2025, but it must be done before the 31st March.
