Many people believe that charging an electric vehicle in the rain can be dangerous
EVs and EV charging stations are made to withstand almost any weather. They’re also tested to standards set by the Society of Automotive Engineers.
How Charging An EV Works
To charge your EV, you connect the charging port of your EV to a wall outlet or EV charging station with the supplied charging cord. But until the charging station and EV establish a connection, nothing happens. The EV then performs measurements to confirm that everything is in working order.
For instance, if the vehicle is not plugged in, the charging wire won’t be activated. Current will flow once the EV decides it is safe to proceed. The EV keeps track of its own charging and stops the flow if something goes wrong.
Therefore, not rain, not snow, nor heat, should keep you from charging your electric vehicle.
