In this video look at how the HW3 cameras on my 2024 Tesla Model Y cope at night. I show how Autopilot, Park Assist and Auto Park work in the dark. All these systems use the side and rear cameras where their view isn’t illuminated by the headlights. So can ‘vision only’ still work in the dark?
When Tesla ditched the radar (brought back on HW4 cars) and ultra sonic parking sensors, there was an uproar and many people cancelled their new car orders. Many thought that Tesla’s vision only approach just didn’t seem viable at the time. To be fair, Tesla did take a year to perfect the software. But the 3D Park Assist system is far superior to just beeping from parking sensors and eventually becoming just as accurate.
I try to show in this video that all the systems seem to work just as well in the dark as they do in daylight, even with the older HW3 cameras.
I have Enhanced Autopilot (EAP) and Auto Park is one of the features you get with EAP, along with Summon mode, Auto lane changes and navigate on Autopilot. See the playlist below for more info on these.
The vehicle in this video is a 2024 Tesla Model Y RWD (MCU3/HW3) with the 62.5kWh (60,5 kWh usable) LFP battery and at the time of filming it’s running on software version 2026.2.6.
