The Blink EV Charging network had a busy week, initially planning app updates that would wipe out access for anyone except those with a physical RFID card, before switching approaches at the eleventh hour and giving out electrons for free.
This quick charge video looks at when and why this "free vend" approach is adopted, as well as how it works so well to generate goodwill from EV drivers where negative press would have been the alternative. Electrify America has also used the free vend / "Complimentary Session" approach a lot in September. At a time when the network has come under fire for poor charger reliability, serving up free charge sessions seems to be taking the edge off for some users.
Give your customers a small thank you for their patience or leave them frustrated – potentially even stranded – at your inaccessible charge station? Seems like an easy choice, but this video shows how close Blink came to opting for the more painful route!
Have you benefited from a complimentary charge session in recent months? Or has an avoidable station outage left you scrambling for alternative chargers? Let us know in the comments.
