Just over a year ago, we pitched the then new BMW i4 against the Tesla Model 3 and the Polestar 2 in the battle of the all-electric sports saloons. This year the compact SUV is now the preferred choice, and so their SUV equivalents take centre stage as the new BMW iX1 wades into battle with the Tesla Model Y and (until Polestar have something to offer in this class) the Volvo XC40 Recharge. And to really put them through their paces, we decided to stage our biggest triple test ever by reviewing them along the new SW660, a tourist route that has become the South West England equivalent of Scotland’s NC500 encompassing Devon & Cornwall and the dramatic Jurassic Coastline.
Who will be crowned our premium compact SUV of choice? The only way to find out was to subject all three cars to the full AutoEV road test to declare a winner. This is our longest ever video, which many may find a little too long, but we felt it important to make sure each car was evaluated properly, as well as finding out what the SW660 had to offer. We have split it into more chapters so it will make it easier for you to skip to the bits you want to know. For the rest of you, grab a cuppa, make yourself comfortable and enjoy!
We would like to thank the team at the SW600 for their help and assistance with this video, and if you would like to know more about them, please visit https://southwest660.com/ to find out more about the driving routes, accommodation, where to eat and what to see on this incredible part of the country, and what our preferred all electric premium SUV to take n the trip would be.
