In the summer of 2017, two young founders took to a stage at the Munich Technology Center and presented the world with the first Sion prototype – an electric car that charges itself via solar cells integrated into its body.
Five years have passed since then. We have optimized, modulated, tested and gathered feedback from thousands of people who believe in our vision. Now it’s time to share the result with you.
But that’s not all. Like the Sion, we have also evolved. To get closer to our vision of a world without fossil fuels, we want to equip every vehicle with solar technology. At Celebrate the Sun, we present the next step on the way to fulfilling this mission.
Special moments like these naturally need a special place. On the spectacular grounds of the WANNDA Circus in Munich, you can expect not only exciting insights into the world of Sono, but also cultural and culinary highlights. We invite you to marvel, discuss, exchange and celebrate with us. Because this moment is for all of us.
VISION
We have to stop wasting our planet’s resources. CO₂ emissions must be reduced, with immediate effect. We have decided to take matters into our own hands by making clean mobility affordable for all. For you and for generations to come.
THE SION
The Sion is the first series-produced car that can additionally charge its battery using solar power. A car that charges itself – a Solar Electric Vehicle (SEV).
The Sion is equipped with a 54 kWh battery, which corresponds to a total range of up to 305 km. Additional range is also provided by the solar panels, seamlessly integrated into the body of the car. These are able to harness the power of the sun and generate up to 245 km (average 112 km) per week of additional range at peak. Solar charging will be available whilst driving, to enable the most efficient use of daylight hours.
