Teslas are prone to frozen door handles in the winter and also due to the frameless windows, you have to take extra care when opening a frozen door as some owners are breaking their window glass. This is because a frameless door requires the window to drop down when it is being opened or closed. If glass is frozen and not moving and then the door is opened or shut, the glass hits the window trim or frozen door seals which are less flexible in the cold and the glass can crack or smash. A repair at a Tesla Service centre can be up to £600.
In this video I show you how to overcome this and how to properly open your frozen doors in the winter. If your door handle is covered in ice, there’s a trick to break the ice but also you can unlatch the driver’s door from within the Tesla app on your phone.
Please share this video with new Tesla owners because some don’t appreciate how different the windows are on a frameless door.
