The UK electric vehicle charging infrastructure is growing as sites are getting new upgraded grid connections. There’s been a 47% increase in the number of chargers in the last year alone.
In this video, I visit the Moto Frankley Southbound Services on the M5, west of Birmingham. These services, located between J3 and J4, have recently seen a massive expansion in the number of EV DC rapid chargers. There was originally a single Gridserve 50kW charger with a separate type2 AC charger.
But now there are an additional 12 Gridserve high power 350kW chargers and a few have Chademo. Tesla have also just opened 16 new Superchargers at this site (opened 14/03/2024) and these are open to all vehicles, not just Teslas.
So this now brings the total number of DC rapid charging bays to 30 at Fankley Southband Services.

Frankley Southbound Services address: Illey Lane, Birmingham, West Midlands B32 4AR.
