Electric cars can be sensible, practical and help save you money. But they can also be completely nuts.
What do you think of the Polestar Synergy Electric Fantasy supercar? Because this is what happens when a car company has a few too many espressos and gets all creative!
The Synergy isn’t just one design – it’s actually three. Polestar ran a design competition for 600 designers, telling them that they had to come up with a car that must embody ‘performance’. It also needed to be sustainable.
From those 600 designs, they whittled it down to the best 10, But the Polestar bosses loved the last three so much, they melded them all together and made a full-size version. So the outside is a mash-up of two exterior designs and the inside is a two-seat interior re-worked to have just one central seat.
With each design came a story and an explanation – so one of the exterior designers was inspired by the shape of Hammerhead sharks, the other was keen on ‘emotional durability and materials that would age gracefully over time.
The interior designer delved into the idea of ‘floating comfort and control’, so there’s more to this than just a load of cool shapes flung together. Can you spot the hammerhead?
The Synergy makes Ginny look like a giant, because it’s very, very low – just under three and a half feet tall, even though it’s just under fifteen feet long. The reason it can be this low is that it doesn’t have proper doors – this canopy flips up and forward like a fighter jet.
As it’s fully electric, the Synergy doesn’t need to package a big engine and drivetrain. No one has said anything about real specs yet, but it’d be safe to assume that Polestar could put together a dual-motor drivetrain and 100+kWh battery. The Polestar 6 is already 884bhp, so I think you’d be able to pick a number… with performance to match.
The bad news? The production version of the Synergy will be about four inches long and fit in the palm of your hand, because the only way you’ll be able to buy a Polestar Synergy is as a HotWheels model. Still, we can but dream, huh?
