We only charge our EVs on cheap rate electricity at home. Typically this is overnight and previously I was using the Octopus Go tariff for cheap night electricity. But for some months now I’ve been using the Octopus Agile tariff which tracks the national grid demands and the price changes every 30 minutes. So we only charge our EVs now when the price is very low, free or even negative. Yes, we get paid to charge our EV and to put the washing machine on or anything else that uses power in the house at those times. If you can load shift, great savings can be made when using the Agile tariff.
And of course, you’re helping to balance the grid and making full use of the increasing amount of renewable energy on the UK grid.
