In this episode we take the electric Land Rover Defender 130 out for some test miles but at the same time we thought we’d see what the affect of different tyres have on fuel economy. The results would be the same irrespective of whether the vehicle is petrol, diesel or electric powered.

Tyres that we tested are:

Maxxis – Trepador (325/75 16)
BF Goodrich – All terrain (265/75 16)
BF Goodrich – Trail Terrain (265/75 16)
Michelin – Pilot Sport 4 SUV (265/60 18)

To try to normalise the different tests as much as possible we set the vehicle height the same, drove the same route in the same way and accurately measured the amount of energy it took to drive the 50 miles via the battery management system.

The results are surprising.
