Many of the EV haters will assume that electric vehicles aren’t green because the electricity to fuel them comes from fossil fuel. Even if the grid was purely coal powered, they’re still better than internal combustion engine vehicles. But electricity grids are getting greener worldwide.
In the UK, our electricity grid generation in the last year has been 53% zero carbon generation. That’s from renewables and nuclear. Coal is no longer used in the UK.
However, most electric vehicle owners will charge from home and charge when the grid is at it’s greenest and cheapest. With smart charging and a grid that is continuously getting greener, EVs also get greener as they get older.
