How much range? Don’t put too much trust in the GOM in an EV.

The range display on an EV can often be artificially low. This is particularly the case if you’ve just purchased the car. It could have been a demonstrator, left running while valeted or serviced, driven on lots of short spirited drives or even just sat around on a lot or in auction yards. All of these will throw out the range meter.
The range meter, often called a guess-o-meter (or GOM), is a calculation based on the current battery state of charge and recently driving efficiency. Its the recent efficiency (i.e. economy) which can vary greatly, which can throw out the estimated range by a considerable margin. This can often confuse new owners and cause them to suspect a faulty or poor traction battery.
