The fact is that all vehicles slowly leak the refrigerant out of the air conditioning system. Typically at a rate of about 50 grams per year.
But if you don’t use the air conditioning much, they leak faster. This often happens more on electric vehicles because the owner resists using it to save energy. This does more harm than good and will cause the refrigerant (or gas) to leak out of dried up joints and seals.
In this case, I’m regassing a 2019 Hyundai Kona Electric that has lost nearly all the refrigerant from the system due to lack of use. Air conditioning should be used in the winter as well as the summer. It not only cools, but also it removes moisture from the air which is very handy in the winter and also useful when its raining as it stops steamed up windows.
