I found an old DC motor which was already set up with a VW adapter plate and Clutch! It’s ready to bolt right to a VW transmission. I plan to do my 1976 Westfalia camper conversion as a "modern EV" with AC motor and regenerative brakes, but the simplicity of this is too hard to miss for a quick-and-dirty conversion just to get the camper running. I’ll at least be able to move it around my driveway while I figure out the high-voltage battery pack and other things I need for the final project.
This is a DC motor built by General Electric for aviation. It’s rated at 120V and 167A.
