It’s time to take BugZappa, our Tesla powered Pikes Peak race car back to the drag strip and this time turn it up to full power. Obviously this car is not designed for drag racing but it’s a good way of putting it under full load, multiple times in quick succession, to see if the drivetrain can take the strain of the power. Apart from the aerodynamics of the Beetle shape, the main thing against it at the drag strip will be traction.

It’s fair to say that the times were very much limited by the available traction from the old road tyres it had on and yes it would be a lot quicker if it has drag slicks on and suspension that was setup for drag racing. But now we’re happy that the driveshafts and other components can cope with full power I think it’s now time to start taking it to some proper race tracks, with bends!!! Stay tuned……
