It can’t have escaped your attention that cars are pretty hard to get hold of right now, and when it comes to electric cars – it’s even worse! And the question we get asked a lot is… why?
Right now, the car industry is experiencing a ‘perfect storm’ of problems. Imagine changing jobs, moving house and getting divorced all at the same time. In automotive terms that’s the extent of the challenges they’re dealing with.
First up, factories had to shut down for the pandemic and weren’t making cars – although people still wanted to buy them. That led to a bit of a backlog. When the factories opened up again, they found there weren’t enough parts to make the cars. Then there was (and still is) a massive shortage of microchips (or semiconductors as engineering types like to call them). Adding to the delays are the war in Ukraine which has affected supply chains across the industry.
