In this video I go through some possible causes for rattles or noises in a Tesla Model Y and how to resolve them. My car is a Shanghai built car (built Oct/Nov 2023) and has been rattle free except from a creaking noise from the rear hatch. This was resolved with a visit to a Tesla service centre (see https://youtu.be/ALIPjiih-Yo) and was fixed by adjusting the bump stops on the tailgate.
I’ve since adjusted these back and will make another video on the topic of adjusting the bump stops.
Early Teslas were known to have creaks, rattles and large panel gaps. However, my previous 2014 Model S was rattle free even after 9 years and 120,000 miles. But such views stick even though modern Teslas are built to a far higher standard.
The Tesla Model Y is built in four factories: Fremont USA, Shanghai China, Texus USA and Berlin Germany. The Shanghai factory was the only one producing right hand drive cars, so all UK Model Ys came from China. That was until May 2023 when Berlin started also making RHD Model Ys and the first of these arrived in the UK on 30th June 2023.
It is acknowledged that the Shanghai built Model Ys are better than the earlier US made cars. However I would suspect the quality has improved now at all the factories.
