At the beginning of 2020, Suzuki introduced an electric car concept called Futuro-E, and this could be the design foundation for the new electric car. Targeting the midsize electric SUV segment, this low-cost electric Suzuki model will be co-developed by Toyota
The vehicle is developed based on the 27PL platform. This is originally a variant of the 40PL global chassis developed by Toyota. With this platform, YY8 owns quite a spacious space with a length of more than 4200 mm
According to Indian media, the Suzuki YY8 electric SUV will have two powertrain options. The standard version is equipped with a 138 hp electric motor combined with a 48 kWh battery pack that provides a range of about 400 km on a single charge.
The more advanced version uses an electric motor with a capacity of 170 horsepower and a 59 kWh battery pack for a maximum travel distance of up to 500 km with a full charge.
The commercial version of YY8 will launch in the Indian market in early 2025 with price starting at 1.3 million Rupees
Besides YY8, at Auto Expo 2023, Suzuki also introduced several other completely new models including Jimny 5-door version and a new SUV based on Baleno.
