Towing obviously uses more fuel. But how does it affect an electric vehicle? In this video, I look at the efficiency when towing an empty trailer vs a fully loaded trailer, using a Tesla Model Y.
The Tesla Model Y can tow up to 1,600kg. The full specs can be found in the Model Y owner’s manual here https://www.tesla.com/ownersmanual/modely/en_gb/GUID-A6D6CF75-C9CA-4140-97FA-341E27E3B4D8.html
The car in this test is a 2024 Tesla Model Y RWD (LFP battery) and the trailer is an Ifor Williams GD85 Mk3 twin axle trailer with a 2700kg gross. The unladen weight with the ramp is 525kg.
