The first of our comparison videos with the (pre-refresh) Tesla Model Y, squaring off against our daily driver Hyundai IONIQ 5, looks at software, cabin comfort, storage, styling, dimensions, and DC charging capabilities.
We’ll also unpack FSD vs. HDA2 driver assist, efficiency and driving dynamics in a future video, to be linked [HERE!]
Chapters:
0:00 – Start
0:29 – Are We Tesla People?
2:01 – Software? Does Not Compare!
3:59 – Cabin Comfort
10:58 – Rear Cabin Space
14:51 – Storage Space
18:52 – Styling & Dimensions
20:08 – DC Charging Capabilities
Maybe it’s just been too long since we spent time in a Y, but the storage space and software capabilities (esp. FSD improvements) definitely left a positive impression. I still can’t quite forgive the lack of a driver cluster or bulbous looks, but I will admit the Juniper/refresh looks much better…more on that in a future comparison, I guess!
Both the 2025 IONIQ 5 and Model Y Juniper, when it arrives in the US, should be different propositions to these pre-refresh models, but there are plenty of 2022-2024 IONIQ 5 models out there and the Model Y has been selling in this form for five years, so I hope the comparison remains useful to potential buyers in future.
Let us know what you think of each vehicle and which one you would pick in the comments.
