The Volvo EX90 marks the next step in Volvo’s journey towards an all-electric future, with this model set to replace the XC90 as the flagship SUV in its range. Designed with practicality and safety in mind, the EX90 offers a vasts interior that comfortably accommodates seven passengers. It carries forward Volvo’s focus on safety features, including advanced driver assistance systems that provide a solid foundation for daily driving.

The EX90 is available in two variants: the Twin Motor and the Twin Motor Performance, both featuring all-wheel drive. The Twin Motor model offers a combined output of 402bhp and 770Nm of torque, while the Performance version boosts these figures to 510bhp and 910Nm. The EX90’s range is reasonable, with Volvo claiming up to 300 miles on a single charge for the Twin Motor variant, depending on driving conditions and usage. This range is supported by a 107kWh battery, which is compatible with fast charging to help reduce downtime during longer journeys.

Inside, the EX90 maintains a minimalist Scandinavian design, with sustainable materials used throughout. The cabin features a large central touchscreen that runs on a Google-based infotainment system, providing straightforward navigation and media options. While the interface is intuitive for those familiar with smartphone technology, some drivers might find the reliance on touch controls less practical when on the move.

Volvo continues its commitment to safety with the EX90, incorporating a range of sensors, cameras, and LiDAR technology designed to detect potential hazards both on the road and off. These systems contribute to Volvo’s ambition of creating safer vehicles, though they require a period of adjustment for drivers unfamiliar with such technologies.

But all this loveliness comes at a price. The cheapest model in the range tops £96k, with mid- and range-topping models well over the six figure mark. Is that too much? Are there better alternatives for the money? Join Nicola as she takes the EX90 out on the road for the first time.
