Did you know some BMW engines donā€™t need throttle valves? These valves are used to regulate how much air an engine gets, and thus how much power it makes. The more you press the accelerator pedal, the more the throttle valve opens. BMW uses a different strategy, which requires a complex system called valvetronic. This offers theoretically infinite intake valve opening variations, by using a worm gear that rotates a cam to various positions.
