My Tesla Model Y rear wheel drive has the 60kWh LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery pack which uses prismatic cells from CATL. The usable capacity is around 57-58 kWh. Tesla recommends that the LFP battery is charged to 100% at least once a week to maintain an accurate state of charge and range calculation.
My car is now 15 months old and has done 18,000 miles and because I get free Supercharging, it has almost exclusively been DC rapid charged to 100% since new. Yet it has only lost 1 mile of range (using Tesla’s EPA range estimate) over this period. That’s only 0.38% degradation!
Many worry about battery life in EVs. In all new electric cars, the battery is warranted for 8 years. But the reality is that in most cases, the battery will outlast the rest of the vehicle.
