We use the Octopus Agile tariff which tracks the weather and the national grid demands and the price changes every 30 minutes. So we only charge our EVs now when the price is very low, free or even negative. Yes, we get paid to charge our EV and to put the washing machine on or anything else that uses power in the house at those times. If you can load shift, great savings can be made when using the Agile tariff.
And of course, you’re helping to balance the grid and making full use of the increasing amount of renewable energy on the UK grid.
The UK is doing pretty well and increasingly adding more renewable generation onto the grid. We have Europe’s second largest offshore wind farm – Dogger Bank Wind Farm in the North Sea off the coast of Yorkshire and Europe’s largest battery storage system in Yorkshire where that power comes in to land.
If you join Octopus Energy using this link https://share.octopus.energy/storm-okapi-251, we both get a £50 credit, or a £100 credit if you’re a business customer.
