Do Electric Vehicles need Mechanical Brakes? | Yep, but They NEVER Wear Out | Electric Car Australia

I often get asked why electric cars have normal mechanical brakes given most of the stopping power in an EV is done by regen or regenerative braking. Well the short answer is regular brakes are still required for hard or emergency braking when you need to shave that speed off in record time. For all regular braking regen is used where the ‘waste’ energy from slowing down is fed back into the battery to be reused….another reason why electric vehicles are far more efficient than internal combustion engine vehicles.
