Our journey starts at Tawa’s Takapu Road interchange and heads northbound along State Highway 1. About 3.5 kilometres north and we see the beginning of the closed Transmission Gully Motorway.

At this point the old State Highway 1 route becomes State Highway 59 and we continue northbound towards Porirua. Further along State Highway 59 we pass through Plimmerton, then Pukerua Bay and onto the coast road where we see picture postcard views of Kāpiti Island.

After passing through Paekākāriki we see roadworks and the current merging point with the Transmission Gully Motorway. Later, State Highway 59 is planned to extend to Mackays Crossing, where it will join State Highway 1.

Now on State Highway 1 again, we drive over Mackays Crossing and head towards the Kāpiti Expressway. Just before the expressway begins, at Raumati, we leave the motorway and join the old State Highway 1.

3 kilometres later and we arrive at Kāpiti Lights in Paraparaumu.
